A Fig Party in the Garden

The fig tree in my garden had turned into a party venue for flower beetles.

How many species of flower beetles do you think are in this photo?
At first glance, they all look the same, but in fact, there are two species: Protaetia orientalis and Protaetia brevitarsis.
They look so similar that you can't tell them apart just from the picture.
To identify them accurately, you need to catch them and examine the shape of their heads.

In this case, the two species were present in nearly equal numbers.
It’s fascinating that two different species share the same food and habitat.
Perhaps they were once separated, evolved into distinct species, and later came to inhabit the same area again.
Interestingly, there seem to be no hybrids between these two species.
