The Institute of Small World is Back in Business!

The Institute of Small World is now back in operation.

We are also resuming orders for our LED illumination systems and camera adapters.

We sincerely apologize for the long wait, and we greatly appreciate your patience.

There are still a few uncertainties, so delivery times may occasionally be longer than usual. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

To celebrate our return, I'd like to share a microscope photograph for the first time in quite a while.

At a bookstore, I found a small bottle of amber that was being sold for only ¥1,000. It appeared to contain an insect fossil.

There were about ten bottles of amber on display, and I noticed that two of them contained what looked like insects. I bought both of them.

Reflected-light polarized microscopy

  • Microscope: Olympus BH2 UMA
  • Objective: Olympus Neo SPlan 10 NIC
  • Relay Lens: Olympus NFK 2.5×
  • Camera: Sony α6300

When I changed the viewing angle, I noticed what appears to be a wing.

I'll try photographing it again tomorrow.

There may be other inclusions hidden inside the amber as well.
