I observed the blood under a microscope while I had the horse mackerel cooked. I am observing differential interference contrast. The red blood cells appear slightly red. Unlike humans, horse mackerel red blood cells retain a nucleus. The round thing in the center of the round disk is the core. The red blood cells themselves have a flat shape. What looks like an elongated rod is a red blood cell lying on its side. If you look closely, you can see the core in the center. The difference between human red blood cells is clear because the nucleus is missing and the center is dented. Cells that are not red are cells other than red blood cells. There were no moving cells because the blood had already died.
